Frequently Asked Questions

The deadline for application submission varies every year. Please contact the program office to find out the deadline of application.

You will receive the information about your match through email, starting September, after you attend a training or orientation with the program staff. 

The program runs from September to March, or starts as soon as you join the program if you apply after September.

To login as a member, you need your TMU username and password. If you've forgotten your ID and password, simply contact the CCS department (x6806) to have it reset. If you do not have a student account, follow these steps to set up your account.

One-on-one Mentoring is provided to strengthen Mentor Mentee relationships. The Mentor and Mentee you are matched with depends on the "partner preference(s)" you indicate in the application form. The most common criteria students indicate are similar programs of study and similar cultural or linguistic background.

As soon as you receive an email informing that you are matched with a Mentor or Mentee, the Mentor should start contacting the Mentee and set up a meeting. You are encouraged to make such contact and meet each other in a week.

Our Open Door Policy encourages you to drop in our office anytime when you have questions about the program, about how to communicate with your mentoring match, or about your life and study and TMU.  Come visit us inside POD 54 or check out the staff page for contact information.

Training and orientation is essential for building a successful mentoring relationship that will help you succeed.  Training and orientation ensure the program provides the type of mentor and Mentee you need, and that we provide the support, resources and information that you require.  If the training and orientation clash with your class time, please contact the program office for alternative sessions. If workshops and other events clash with your class time, you need to inform your Mentor or Mentee. 

 

The training and orientation sessions provide helpful tips, do’s and don'ts about making a good mentoring relationship. If you miss the sessions, you are welcome to come and speak to us and will be very happy to assist you. 

 

Student Mentors can talk to their Lead Mentors and the program staff if there are concerns or questions regarding mentoring relationships. First-year Mentees should contact the program staff directly via tmentor@torontomu.ca

On average, keep regular contact for 4 - 6 hours per month. You can contact them in person, phone, e-mail, instant messaging or even Facebook. 

We first identify the best possible match for you. We let you choose a Mentor or Mentee only when 2 students are considered equally suitable for you.

If you would like to return to the program as a Student Mentor, please log into your profile and sign up as a Mentor for the upcoming year (external link) . Be sure to update your profile with any changes to your contact information or pairing preferences. You do not need to re-apply unless you are new to the program.

The Lead Mentor is a student position in Tri-Mentoring that provides assistance and mentoring to a specific group of mentoring pairs in the course of the program during the school year.  They connect with the mentor and mentee to make sure that they engage in the mentoring partnership productively and to help in dealing with any problems if ever they should arise. 

TMP operates through out Community Portal. The TMP Community Portal is a mentoring platform where we host all of our mentoring programs. Students can use the Portal to interact with advisors, other students, alumni and industry professionals.

You can book a one-on-one mentoring appointment with a Mentoring Facilitator and/of student staff. Email tmentor@torontomu.ca with your name and faculty of study/community so you can be referred to the TMP staff members that can best support you. 

If you have a profile on our TMP Community Portal, please visit the Advisors tab to book an appointment with a Mentoring Facilitator, or the Explore Your Community tab to book an appointment with a student staff member. 

 

 

All mentoring programs are currently open to part-time and full time undergraduate students, graduate students, and law school students.  This includes all forms of our  peer mentoring, career mentoring*, and group mentoring programs along with Interfaith & Student Action programming.

*Chang School student have access to all our group mentoring programs. The Career Flash Mentoring Program is available for Chang School students earring a certificate only.  You can contact Dena Marcos at denamarcos@torontomu.ca to learn more about this program.

All students who joined the TMP Community Portal can also interact with alumni and industry professionals for informational interview and/or chat through our Explore Your Community tab.

 

The Tri-Mentoring Program hosts a wide variety of exciting and informative events, including Back to Basics and Mentor 2.0 workshops on topics such as Scholarships & Bursaries and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion; Cultural Programming events including live cook-a-longs and cultural celebrations open to all; and Career Mentoring events covering topics like Planning Your Career Journey. They majority of these events will be delivered virtually during the Fall 2021 semester.
