Mission Statement

The Medical Centre is a non-profit unit of Student Wellbeing that aims to promote a healthy environment for work and study by offering quality health services to current students, staff and faculty.

Definition of Health

To reach a level of optimal physical, mental and social well-being, an individual or group is able to realize aspirations, to satisfy needs, and to change or cope with the environment. Health, therefore is seen as a resource for living, a positive concept emphasizing social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities (World Health Organization, 1984).

The Medical Centre is pleased to provide the following health care services:

  • Allergy shots
  • Assessments for common medical problems (e.g. respiratory illness, urinary tract infection, back and muscle pain, headache, stomach issues etc.).
  • Immunizations and TB skin testing
  • Medical certificates
  • Mental health assessments
  • Pap tests
  • Physicals
  • Reproductive health issues (e.g. birth control counseling and prescription, pregnancy etc.).
  • Testing for sexually transmitted infections

Administrative Team

The Administrative Staff at the Medical Centre work tirelessly to provide high quality healthcare to the Toronto Metropolitan University community. They ensure that patients are booked promptly for appointments, facilitate referrals, and help patients navigate the healthcare system. The administrative team is led by the Administrative Coordinator.

Medical Team

The medical team consists of family physicians, psychiatrists and medical trainees. The Family Physicians provide evidence based medical care for common physical and mental health conditions and the Clinical Nurse Lead provides nursing support. They work closely with Psychiatrists to manage patients with complex mental health needs. Where appropriate the Family Physician can set up a referral to a Psychiatrist for diagnostic clarification or advice on medication selection. The medical team hopes to educate, guide and empower patients to make the best health decisions for themselves. The medical team is led by the Lead Physician.

The Medical Centre is committed to the growth of medical education and supports the training of medical trainees. We believe that hands-on clinical experience is necessary for a trainee to become an independent practitioner. As such, you may encounter a medical trainee at the clinic. The medical trainee may be a Medical Student (studying to be a doctor) or Resident Physician (a graduated doctor completing internship in a field of medicine, like family practice). The medical trainee is always under the supervision of a physician. If you are uncomfortable with seeing a medical trainee, you can request to be seen by the physician.
