What is Writing Support? (video, no sound)

We think our writing is best when we get to talk about it with others at various stages of the process. So, that’s what we do - help students become better writers by engaging them in meaningful conversations about their writing. If you get in the habit of doing this, it will become a meaningful part of your ongoing writing processes and development at Ryerson.

Due to Ryerson Policy, we are unable to help with take home tests or exams.

Writing Support appointments are held in SLC-452. This room is located on the 4th floor of the SLC and is accessible through elevators and a powered door entrance. A height adjustable desk is available in the room for those who may require it. We proudly offer a scent-free environment. If you require additional information regarding accessibility, please contact

You can now book an appointment with peers and staff in Student Affairs Storytelling - to get help with all kinds of digital, mixed- and multi-media assignments. Think of it as "multiliteracy" support. We can help with poster presentations, slidedecks, infographics, design principles, video-making, social media, blog design, podcasts, storyboards, crafts, audio-visual, and other creative projects.

Foundations of Academic Writing and Grammar for First-year Students

Thursday, October 24, 12pm to 4pm

Feeling intimidated by your writing assignments? Need help fine-tuning your grammar and essay writing skills?

We invite all Ryerson first-year students to join us for a crash course introduction to university-level writing.

In response to concerns from students, professors, and secondary school teachers alike, we’ve developed a day of programming that addresses the high school-to-university writing gap. Some topics include:

  • Harnessing high school writing skills for university success
  • Not your 5-paragraph essay: common university writing assignments
  • Introduction to scholarly research
  • The academic writing process
  • Common grammar errors
  • …and more!

Enjoy the long lasting benefits of an intensive and tailored learning experience dedicated to academic research and writing. Although the program is designed with first-year students in mind, all Ryerson students are welcome!

Register for the Foundations of Academic Writing and Grammar.

Coffee will be provided.

For accessibility requirements or questions, please contact Natalya Androsova, at
