Canada relies heavily on immigration for sustainability and to ensure a strong economy. Additionally, interest in permanent residency remains high amongst the international student community at Ryerson. Recently, the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario have been targeting international students as prime candidates for immigration due to their Canadian education and work experience, and high adaptability to life in Canada.
As of January 2015, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has a new electronic system called Express Entry to manage applications for permanent residence under the following economic immigration programs.
Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry system through their Provincial Nominee Programs to meet local labour market needs. Information about the Family Class for permanent residence to Canada can be obtained on the IRCC website.
International Student Support (ISS) provides numerous avenues of support to you if you are interested in obtaining permanent resident status in Canada for yourself and/or your family members. We strongly encourage you to book an appointment with an International Student Advisor and participate in the ISS Canadian Immigration and Legal Services Program.
