Status Letters for International Students

International Student Support (ISS) provides letters for international students in support of their varying administrative needs and immigration responsibilities.  With extensive knowledge and expertise on immigration compliance, legal and special issues affecting international students, ISS provides status letters which are effective in supporting each student's unique situation.

Status letters are prepared for varying purposes including study permit, work permits, temporary resident visa and US visa applications, spouse/family immigration applications, international education expenses and much more.

All status letters processed by ISS will contain the Ryerson seal (i.e. stamp imprint) and Ryerson's Designated Learning Institution number (O19395677651).


How to Request a Status Letter

Please ensure that you complete all sections of the PDF fileStatus Letter Request Form and select the appropriate letter for your specific purpose. If you are not certain of which type of letter to select, contact the ISS office for assistance. 

An incomplete form may not be accepted and can delay your request.  


An international student must pay the applicable fees before a request can be accepted and processed. Students can make payment using a debit or credit card at the ServiceHub located on the 1st floor of the Podium Building, POD-150.

Fee: $20 CAD per letter requested; $5 CAD per additional copies.

Rush fee: In urgent situations, students can request rush service for an additional fee of $15 CAD.


Note: There is no fee required for Co-op Work Permit status letters.


In Person: The completed form along with confirmation of the fee payment (stamp at the top right corner of the form) may be submitted to one of our Student Support Assistants at the ISS front desk in POD-50A.

Processing Time

The processing time is five (5) business days from the date that the request is received at International Student Support.

Letters requested through our Rush Service will be processed in two (2) business days.

Completed status letters will be available for pick-up at the front desk in the International Student Support (ISS) office located in POD-50A. Students should present their Ryerson One Card to obtain the letter.

An electronic copy of the status letter will also be e-mailed to the student’s Ryerson email address.
