Student Initiatives Fund

The Student Initiatives Fund (SIF) is a grant-funding, standing committee that reports to the Student Services Advisory Committee. SIF is administered by the Department of Student Life on behalf of the Vice Provost Students, Ryerson University.

By appreciating the potential of Ryerson student initiatives and engaging in meaningful dialogue, this student-to-student model contributes to building the culture of Ryerson student life to reflect its diversity and creativity. The spirit of SIF is to provide seed funding to student-led non-profit initiatives, enhance student programming with the priority and focus on new initiatives.

SIF awards funding for two main projects: (1) undergraduate and graduate student-led initiatives (2) undergraduate and graduate student-led lounge upgrades.

An individual or student group can submit a SIF application for one initiative per semester. New initiatives are eligible to receive up to $5,000 and established initiatives are eligible to receive up to $2,500!

New this year is our Emergency Accessibility Funding (EAF) and the Internationalization @ Home Fund.

Emergency Accessibility Funding is for initiatives that need funding to make their events more accessible. Please indicate the line items you would like EAF funding to cover by inputting EAF into the “Funded by***” column beside the line item you would like funded.

The Internationalization @ Home Fund is ad-on funding for initiatives that provide opportunities for Ryerson students to engage in global learning without having to travel. To be eligible for this additional funding, initiatives must either 1) center and engage global topics and issues, and/or 2)  provide opportunities for students from diverse communities (e.g. international students, diaspora communities, Indigenous Nations within Canada) to engage with and learn from one another. Initiatives cannot involve international travel. They must be either virtual or on-campus. Eligible initiatives may receive up to $5000 in additional funding. For more information about Global Learning at Home see Ryerson International's website.

Funding decisions are made by the committee depending on the merit of the proposal and its benefit to the Ryerson community.
