Biography:

Frank Miele held several senior positions as commissioner of economic development for over 35 years with Niagara Falls, Scarborough, and Vaughan, Ontario. He was also the town manager for Meaford, Gravenhurst and Erin.

Frank currently teaches local economic development at:

  • Ryerson University School of Urban & Regional Planning
  • York University School of Public Policy and Administration
  • Seneca College School of Law & Public Administration (also teaches Municipal Finance)

Frank is a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.

Education background:

  • 1979: University of Waterloo, bachelor of environmental studies (honours in urban & regional planning, political science minor)
  • 1986: University of Waterloo, certificate & diploma in economic development
  • 1990: University of Waterloo, master's of applied environmental studies-- (local economic development)  

Research Interests:

  • Business succession planning
  • Digital innovations that stimulate new enterprises and job creation
  • Tourism: Leveraging natural and cultural assets to drive growth and innovation through digital media
