Overview

Timothy Bartkiw is an Associate Professor in the Department of Human Resources and Organizational Behaviour. He holds a Ph.D. in public policy, and degrees in economics and law. He is also a qualified lawyer and previously practiced labour/employment law for several years. His academic research interests span the fields of labour/employment law and policy, industrial relations, and political economy. He teaches various courses in labour/employment law and industrial relations at Ryerson. His most recent research topics include the regulation of precarious work and triangular employment; worker access to unionization and the erosion of the collective labour relations regulatory framework; and labour law Charter jurisprudence and the increased “legalization” of labour policy via Charter litigation.

In addition to his academic research, Tim has been an active participant in labour law review and policy development, and has served as an advisor to government in multiple labour law review processes within both provincial and federal jurisdictions, pertaining to federal employment standards law, and provincial labour relations and collective bargaining models relating to both the public and private sectors. Tim is also a member of the Labour Law Casebook Group and a co-editor of the most recent volume of the labour and employment law textbook that this group co-edits collectively.
