TRSM Team Wins FinTech Competition at NBTC ‘17

March 15, 2017

Congratulations to Business Technology Management students Rhyan Mahazudin, Alexandra Lincoln, and Ali Abbas Rawji on their incredible success at the National Business and Technology Conference (NBTC ‘17) (external link)  on March 10.

The TRSM team was selected as the winner of this year’s FinTech competition, which featured nine teams from many of Canada’s other leading business schools, including the University of Waterloo, the University of Toronto, Western, Queen’s, York, and Simon Fraser.

The team won for their innovative pitch that proposed CIBC leverage emerging chatbot technology as an additional platform to connect with clients. Powered through an IBM Watson back end, the TRSM team’s proposal would allow clients to conduct transactions through Facebook Messenger and Slack.

NBTC is Canada’s premier annual business and technology conference and features student competitions in Health Tech, FinTech, eCommerce, and Entrepreneurship. This year’s event was held at the historic Omni King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto.

This is the second year in a row TRSM students have finished on the podium at NBTC. A team featuring Bradly Dahdaly (BTM) won the Big Data Competition at NBTC ‘16.
