TORONTO -- The next generation of business leaders have a new home to launch their post-graduate careers, with the announcement of the Ted Rogers School of Management’s PhD in Management at Ryerson University.

The program, which is now open for applications and will accept its first cohort this fall, is dedicated to graduate students who are looking to investigate topics and issues with real world impact.

“The PhD in Management was built for students whose hearts beat for research that is relevant and practical,” said Daphne Taras, Dean of the Ted Rogers School of Management.

“COVID-19 did not stop us from being ambitious about the future. We have a very large and dedicated faculty; there now are 40+ qualified PhD supervisors and by fall we will have 20 more productive scholars to contribute to mentoring candidates. We already have a well-earned reputation for multidisciplinary collaboration in an environment that buzzes with entrepreneurial energy,” Dean Taras said.

The program is designed to develop graduates who are skilled in research, have a theoretical and practical understanding of the challenges that organizations experience, and are able to disseminate their knowledge within research communities, industries, and the public at large.

“The program is unique because it offers flexible study options that allow candidates to do their PhD their way. They can take the program full-time or part-time, allowing a successful balance of work, life and school,” said Dr. Hong Yu, Associate Dean, Graduate Programs.

The Ted Rogers School is home to 15 research centres, institutes and labs. Located in the heart of Toronto’s business district, with long-standing connections to the city’s business community and global research networks, the program seeks students eager to have an impact on business practices and help inform broader public policy.

PhD candidates work with a faculty supervisor in one of the Ted Rogers School’s diverse and interdisciplinary academic areas of specialization: Digital Enterprise and Social Media; Real Estate Studies; Retail and Consumer Services; and Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

“We are thrilled to welcome our inaugural cohort of students and support them as they carry out rigorous scientific research about complex management problems in a rapidly changing and globally-oriented economy,” said Dean Taras.
