An update on our 2020/2021 meal plans and dining service model

August 11, 2020

As Ryerson continues to plan for a gradual return to campus amid the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to share some information regarding how meal plans and dining service will work at Ryerson for the 2020/2021 academic year.

COVID-19 has significantly impacted food service operations at Ryerson, and our team is working around the clock to offer a comprehensive dining service on campus that provides students with wholesome, delicious and affordable meals, while also ensuring our dining hall guests and staff remain healthy and safe. We remain committed to accommodating a wide variety of allergens and dietary considerations, including vegetarian, vegan, halal and meals made without gluten.

While this provides a snapshot of our current plans for meal plans and dining services for fall 2020, these plans are being continually adapted and updated to meet the realities of the current COVID-19 situation in Toronto. We will continue to provide updates on our plans for fall 2020 here on our website and by email as meal plan and dining services operations are confirmed over the next few weeks. We appreciate your patience as our team continues to confirm our meal plan and dining service models for the 2020/2021 academic year.

Your health and safety is important to us

As we all navigate the challenges of COVID-19, we are implementing a number of enhanced health and safety procedures to keep our guests and staff safe. Enhanced health and safety protocols include:

  • a requirement that all guests and staff wear a mask or face covering when entering or exiting the Pitman Dining Hall, as mandated by Ryerson’s Face Mask Policy and the City of Toronto’s mask bylaw (external link) ;
  • strict physical distancing requirements when guests line up to enter or pick-up take-out meals at the Pitman Dining Hall;
  • reducing occupancy in the Pitman Dining Hall to a maximum of 60 guests;
  • enhancing food handling training for our staff in light of COVID-19;
  • enhancing our cleaning, sanitization and disinfection guidelines for equipment and surfaces, as well as increasing their frequency;
  • transitioning self-serve stations in our dining halls to staffed stations;
  • implementing contactless, cashless payment for drop-in dining.

How our meal plans for residence students will work this year

7-day meal plan

Our 7-day meal plan offers meal plan holders access to dine-in service and take-out meals at the Pitman Dining Hall.  The 7-day meal plan may work at additional dining halls or campus eateries as Ryerson continues to work towards a broader reopening of campus in the coming months.

5-day meal plan

The 5-day meal plan offers meal plan holders access to dine-in service and take-out meals at the Pitman Dining Hall. The 5-day meal plan may work at additional dining halls or campus eateries as Ryerson continues to work towards a broader reopening of campus in the coming months.

$1,000 declining balance meal plan

Operating like a debit card, the $1,000 declining balance meal plan subtracts the cost of each meal ordered from the remaining balance of your plan. Individual meal prices can be found on the Pitman Dining Hall page on our website.

In the event you have unused funds at the end of the winter 2021 semester, you may request a refund on your remaining balance or have these funds rolled over to your Ryerson Eats Fund for the 2021/2022 academic year for use in our dining halls and campus eateries.

Meal delivery is available for students required to self-isolate in residence

In the event a meal plan holder is required to self-isolate in residence, a meal delivery option is available. Meal plan holders will be required to inform Housing & Residence Life staff of their need to self-isolate and we will work with staff to deliver their meals.
