Permit Parking

Important notice: Effective March 25, the 300 Victoria St. Garage is temporarily closed to daily public and permit parking. 300 Victoria St. Garage parking permit holders have been notified of alternate parking arrangements via a March 24 email.

Permit parking is available to Ryerson community members. Learn about your options:

Fall and winter 2020 to 2021 permits 

The fall and winter 2020 to 2021 parking permits will be available for purchase online beginning August 4, 2020 at 9:30 a.m., on a first-come, first-served basis.

Duration

Parking permits are valid for four or eight month periods:

  • Fall 2020 and winter 2021 semesters: September 1, 2020 to April 30, 2021 (eight months)
  • Fall 2020 semester: September 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020 (four months)
  • Winter 2021 semester: January 1, 2021 to April 30, 2021 (four months)

Eligibility

Undergraduate and Chang School of Continuing Education students 

  • Students must be enrolled in a minimum of three courses in each fall and winter semesters.

Graduate students 

  • Students must be registered in each fall and winter semesters.

Permit locations 

Student parking permits can be used in one of two parking facilities.

240 Jarvis St. Garage (underground parking)

  • Height clearance: 6 ft.
  • Location: West side of Jarvis St. between Gerrard St. and Dundas St., under the ILLC.
  • Accessible parking options: 3 standard accessible parking spaces (Type B)

Application process

Once your purchase is completed, you will receive an email confirmation to your Ryerson email account from ruparking@ryerson.ca. This email will include:

  • Transaction confirmation
  • Parking facility location attached to your permit
  • Access guidelines for your parking facility location
  • Placement of parking permit decals on vehicles

How to pick up your parking permit decal

Ryerson student parking permit holders may pick up their parking permit decal from the OneCard Office via their temporary location in POD-52A. Students who have purchased parking permits for winter 2021 should not pick up their parking permit decal at this time.

Parking permit decal distribution dates and times

Parking permit decal pick up will be available Monday to Friday in POD-52A beginning August 31 at the following times:

Arrange to pick up your parking permit decal

You may request to pick up your parking permit decal from campus by emailing onecardbookings@ryerson.ca. Please provide two preferred pick up dates and times in your email.

Once you are approved to pick up your parking permit decal, you will be assigned a date and time to pick them up from POD-52A.

Additional instructions for new students to Ryerson

If you are a new student to Ryerson who also needs to pick up your OneCard, in addition to your parking permit decal, please email onecardbookings@ryerson.ca and inform OneCard staff that you need to pick up multiple items.  Please provide two preferred pick up dates and times in your email.

Once you are approved to pick up your parking permit decal and OneCard, you will be assigned a date and time to pick it up from POD-52A.

Accessing POD-52A

To access POD-52A, please approach the Library Building entrance on Nelson Mandela Walk and press the intercom to be connected to staff from Community Safety and Security. Inform them that you are here to pick up your parking permit decal from POD-52A and you will be buzzed in. Please be advised that students are required to wear a mask when entering campus buildings.

When you arrive at POD-52A, please join the queue outside the door and maintain physical distancing between yourself and other community members. A OneCard staff member will inform you when it is your turn to enter POD-52A.

Once you are allowed to enter POD-52A, please approach the desk and provide OneCard staff with your full name, student number and let them know that you are here to pick up your parking permit decal. A OneCard staff member will then provide you with your parking permit decal. You will be required to exit POD-52A immediately upon receiving your parking permit decal.

Parking permit decals 

Parking permit decal must be clearly displayed on the left side of the vehicle’s front windshield or on the dashboard of the vehicle at all times. Failure to do so may result in the vehicle being ticketed and/or towed.

Currently, staff and faculty parking permits are only available at the 288 Church St. Garage. There are no available staff and faculty parking permits at the 300 Victoria St. and 160 Mutual St. garages at this time.

Parking Services is offering two types of parking permits for the 288 Church St. Garage for the 2020/2021 academic year. Staff and faculty may purchase a temporary four month parking permit for the Fall 2020 semester or an ongoing, permanent parking permit. 

Please note that 288 Church St. Garage parking permits are limited and preference will be given to faculty and staff interested in purchasing a permanent, ongoing parking permit.

  • Ongoing, permanent (beginning September 1, 2020)

In order for staff and faculty to be eligible for a parking permit, you must be employed by the university.

Faculty and staff parking permits are currently available for the 288 Church St. Garage. 

288 Church St. Garage (underground parking)

  • Height clearance: 6.3 ft.
  • Location: Alleyway south of 288 Church St. Accessible from the west side of Church St. between Gerrard St. and Dundas St.
  • Accessible parking options: 3 accessible van parking spaces (Type A), 6 standard accessible parking spaces (Type B)

Parking Services staff will provide you with an update on the status of your 288 Church St. parking permit application after August 4, 2020.

Faculty and staff who opt for the ongoing, permanent parking permit will automatically have their parking permit renewed each month on an ongoing basis through HR until we receive notification that they would like to cancel or suspend their parking permit. 

Faculty and staff with a four month temporary parking permit will be automatically billed through HR and will have their payment automatically cancelled at the expiration of their parking permit.

Completing the 288 Church St. Garage 2020/2021 Parking Permit Expression of Interest Form does not guarantee you a parking permit for the 288 Church St. Garage. Parking Services staff will provide you with an update on the status of your 288 Church St. parking permit application after August 4, 2020.

Vehicle entry to the 288 Church St. Garage is by FOB access only

Four month temporary parking permit holders will be charged a $50 refundable deposit for their parking garage FOB. Your FOB deposit will be refunded to you at the conclusion of your parking permit once you've returned your FOB and parking permit decal. Individuals with a permanent parking permit for the 288 Church St. Garage are not required to pay this deposit. 

In the event you lose your FOB, a replacement may be purchased for $50.

Paying for your refundable FOB deposit

Payment for 288 Church St. Garage FOBs will automatically be made through payroll deductions based on your pay schedule. At the conclusion of your parking permit, your FOB deposit will be refunded through payroll.

How to pick up your parking permit decal or FOB

Ryerson employees who are planning to use their parking permit during the fall 2020 semester may pick up their parking permit decal or FOB from the OneCard Office via their temporary location in POD-52A. Permit holders who have temporarily suspended their parking permit for the fall 2020 semester should not request to pick up their parking permit decal or FOB at this time.

Join the waitlist

If you would like to be placed on the waitlist for the 300 Victoria St. or 160 Mutual St. garages, please complete the Parking Permit Application for staff and faculty. Parking locations are listed in the application.

Once there is a parking spot available, you will be contacted by email. Please note that at this time there is an up to two-year waiting period.

Once you are contacted, if you do not respond to an offer within 10 business days, your name will be removed from the waitlist and we will move to the next applicant on the list.

If your first choice lot is offered to you and you accept, your other waitlist requests will become void. If your second choice lot is offered to you, your first choice request will remain active.

Suspend your existing parking permit

If you would like to suspend your parking permit privileges for medical leave (one month or longer in duration), maternity/parental leave, and/or sabbatical, please complete the google formStaff and Faculty Parking Suspension Request Form, external link. Permits cannot be suspended for vacations or holiday periods.  Suspension requests are subject to payroll deadlines. If a suspension request is received after the payroll deadline, deductions will be applied to the next pay period. A suspension of parking privileges cannot be effected retroactively.
