The Ryerson Urban Farm aims to build capacity for rooftop farming through production, research and engagement. The Urban Farm operates rooftop growing spaces on Ryerson University’s campus using spray-free, ecological methods. We offer educational programming and engage with researchers and community partners through our Living Lab.
Our main production space is a quarter-acre rooftop farm located on the Andrew and Valerie Pringle Environmental Green Roof above the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre. The farm is designed in the market garden tradition, with over 50 crops and more than 100 cultivars, along with three rooftop bee hives. Our second rooftop farm, being constructed atop the Daphne Cockwell Complex, is the first purpose-built rooftop farm established under the City of Toronto’s green roof by-law, external link for food production.
