Urban Farm rooftop operations temporarily reduced to essential activities

May 04, 2020

In alignment with Toronto Public Health guidelines and Ryerson University’s response to COVID-19, Ryerson Urban Farm rooftop operations have been reduced to essential activities only and all Urban Farm programs are cancelled until further notice.

While urban agriculture remains an essential service in Toronto, the Urban Farm will continue to produce crops for donation to emergency food relief organizations within the community. Rooftop operations have been restructured to produce nutrient-dense staple crops with a high shelf-life and storage capacity, such as winter squash, garlic and root vegetables. This reduced operational model limits rooftop access to a satellite crew of four to eight staff visiting the site several times per week. During these site visits, staff adhere to health and safety protocols by maintaining social distance and practicing hand-washing.
