Susan Silver is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work.  She has an MSW from the University of Toronto and PhD from Bryn Mawr College in Philadelphia.  Susan is the former Director of the School (1998-2003), the Graduate Program Director for the MSW program (2009-2011) and the Interim Director of the School (2016-2018) . Her research interests include critical research methodologies, program evaluation and the critical use of interactive communication technologies in research and evaluation.  She has a strong commitment to community-university research collaborations and has completed a national study to develop an evaluation framework for family support programs. Working with Family Resource Programs across Canada, this is the first national study to develop evaluation indicators that are grounded in the experiences most valued by program participants. Rachel Berman is an Associate Professor in the School of Early Childhood Studies at Ryerson University and the Director of the MA program in ECS. She has an MA in Human Development and Family Relations from the University of Connecticut and a PhD in Family Studies from the University of Guelph. Professor Berman is the editor of the book Corridor Talk: Canadian Feminist Scholars Share Stories of Research Partnerships published by Inanna Publications in 2014. Her research interests lie in the area of critical methodologies in particular social research with children. She is currently the principal investigator of the Social Sciences and Humanities funded research project entitled “Can we talk about race? Confronting Colour-Blindness in early childhood settings” that examines ways to foster conversations about ‘race’ in early childhood settings.
