Request to make site public (site activation)
Digital Publishing requires a MINIMUM of TWO business days [no exceptions] to prepare and schedule your activation.
If you require an activation review, more time may be required.
A site activation is the process of moving your development website (dev.ryerson.ca) to the production environment (ryerson.ca).
Once your site has been moved to production, your development site will be immediately deactivated and deleted after two weeks without notification.
An activation review ensures that new websites adhere to Ryerson's web standards and guidelines. Digital Publishing will review your site for potential design and usability issues. As part of the review, digital assets will be searched to ensure no images exceed 1MB and that filenames and folders do not contain spaces or restricted characters. Digital Publishing requires a minimum of two business days to review your website.
Feedback will be provided to the client in the form of recommendations and/or required changes.
When requesting a site release and an activation review, please include enough time for the review (two to three days) and required modifications (one to two days). Changes are the responsibility of the client.
An activation review is not an accessibility review.
When a site activation is requested, an accessibility review is conducted by the IT Accessibility Specialist to ensure your website is accessible and complies with mandatory guidelines required by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA, external link). If issues are found, feedback will be provided within two weeks in the form of recommendations and/or mandatory changes.
The accessibility review will not impact the scheduled release of your website unless there are significant issues. Otherwise, changes can be made once the site is activated. It is ultimately the content authors responsibility to ensure all website content adheres to WCAG 2.0 Level AA by January 1, 2021. For guidance, please read our Accessibility & SEO section or contact the IT Accessibility Specialist.
