The Fight for Rights in North America
This comparative course is a historical examination of human rights in Canada and the United States. Students explore how rights have been conceptualized, codified, protected, and violated, with an emphasis on resistance to oppression and the efforts of civil and human rights advocates. Themes include: human rights in the context of settler colonialism, racism, sexism and hetero-sexism; human rights and the body; security and human rights; foreign policy; domestic and international law; and hate propaganda.
