Brace yourself for an exhilarating month ahead with action-packed events hosted by TMU, including therapy dog FriYays, the DemocracyXChange Summit, Indigenous Student Showcase and more.

April is on the horizon and TMU’s calendar is bursting with activity, featuring an exciting mix of events spanning academics, culture, recreation and mental wellness. Explore our upcoming events listed below for more details.

April 2 

Design Fabrication Zone (DFZ) Open Shop: All-Access

Do you craft, build, sew, code, woodwork, solder or quilt? If so, then stop by the DFZ Open Shop! Each week from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., The DFZ Open Shop welcomes community members to their fabrication space to work on projects, gain access to tools, and meet new people in the community.

The DFZ is here to support everyone in the design & fabrication industry! The Open Shop is free and open to all students, staff, faculty and the public.

Check out these three Creative School productions featuring fourth-year student actors. Production students across all years of study collaborate on the creation process, including design work, management/scheduling, budgeting, and working with guest artists to bring the vision to life. Centre for Urban Energy Clean Energy Expo

If you're eager to connect with energy sector professionals don't miss out on the Clean Energy Expo. Engage with discussions on topics like energy storage, smart grids, renewables, and more. Therapy Dog FriYAYs!

Join us for an hour of puppy love every Friday with Therapy Dogs FriYays presented by TMU Leadership!  TMU’s Therapy Dog Program aims to improve mental well-being on campus, and bring positive mental health and wellness supports to our community. Stop by the SLC weekly on Fridays from 2 -3 p.m. for therapy dog sessions, created in partnership with the St. John's Ambulance Therapy Dog Program.

The Revive Market  (external link) 

Your new favourite sustainability initiative is back! The Revive Market, your go-to local pop-up for pre-owned clothing, is making its final appearance of the fiscal year on April 5th. Expect plenty of surprises and the chance to support TMU student small-business collaborators. Stay tuned for updates and drop-off details by following @revivemrkt on Instagram.

The Black Flourishing Conference

TMU’s  Black Flourishing Conference is a two-day event designed to celebrate, empower and centre Black student success. The conference aims to address the unique needs and challenges faced by Black students and explore ways in which TMU can better support its students academically, emotionally, and socially in order to create an environment where we can feel seen, thrive and flourish. 

April 9 - 11 

SPRINGWORKS

The Creative School presents SPRINGWORKS 2024. This glittering mixed bill features choreography by the National Ballet of Canada’s Choreographic Associate, Guillaume Côté, and award winning, two-time Dora Mavor Moore award nominated, Esie Mensah, with lighting design by Arun Srinivasan. Performed by the 3rd and 4th-year Performance Dance students, this staple of Performance programming, SPRINGWORKS 2024, is not to be missed.

April 10 

Indigenous Student Showcase: Awards & Appreciation Dinner

On Wednesday, April 10, join us at the annual Indigenous Student Showcase: Awards and Appreciation Dinner – a platform for undergraduate and graduate Indigenous students at TMU  to define their success and present their accomplishments to the broader community. During the event, we will honour the achievements, creativity and innovation of Indigenous students at TMU, actively involved in a host of scholarly, research and creative pursuits. The event is open to all TMU students, faculty and staff. 

April 11 - 13

DemocracyXChange Summit (external link) 

Committed to connecting, celebrating and equipping people who are taking action to strengthen democracy and civil society, join the Dais for DemocracyXChange, Canada’s democracy summit. 

Listen to speakers from across the globe, engage in leadership workshops, seminars, and address pressing civic concerns in our local community. Summit events will take place at OCAD University and TMU in Toronto from Apr 11, 2024, 7:00 p.m. – Apr 13, 2024, 6:00 p.m.

Maximum Exposure

Make sure to mark your calendars for Maximum Exposure - the School of Image Arts’ annual year-end exhibition that showcases the work of the best young emerging artists attending Toronto Metropolitan University. Featured as part of the highly reputable CONTACT Photography Festival, MaxEx provides an invaluable experience for students to showcase their work and gain industry-level exhibition experience. 

School of Interior Design Year End Show (external link) 

Circle the date on your calendars for un/fold, the 2024 rendition of the School of Interior Design's Year End Show. Let's come together to celebrate the dynamic fabric of our design  community with a showcase of inspiring student designs, engaging installations, interactive workshops, networking opportunities, and much more.

Join TMU on opening night on April 26th and at the public show on April 27th at 302 Church Street.
