Famed New York Poet Simon Pettet Reads on the Edge

May 08, 2013

The English Department was delighted to host famed New York poet Simon Pettet at its last reading in the “Writers on Edge” series for this academic year.

Born in Britain and a long-time resident of Manhattan, Simon is an internationally renowned author who now spends part of his time in Toronto. Alice Notley has called him “American and British poetry’s most meticulous craftsperson.” Simon read from his latest book, Hearth (2008), as well as newer unpublished work.

Joining Simon were two Ryerson poets – Chelsea Miya and Emma  Renda – who read from their recent works. Chelsea and Emma are both students in the English MA Program in Literatures of Modernity. Held at the Imperial Pub, the reading was infectious and stimulating – a brilliant conclusion to an exciting year of creative writing events at Ryerson. The Creative Writing Committee thanks the Department of English and the English MA Program for their support of this latest reading and the series.
