The market for young adult (YA) fiction is expanding even as the rest of the industry shrinks. Are you curious whether a novel you’re writing might work as YA? Wondering what narrative and stylistic approaches are required in order to be successful in this genre? In this workshop Sarah Henstra shares what she’s learned as an author of both YA and “regular” literary fiction. We will discuss what makes YA special and consider whether there are unique challenges in writing for teenaged readers. We’ll explore techniques for crafting believable characters, propulsive plots, and immersive narrative voices.
