Someone sitting on a chair doing yoga

Indigenous students are invited to join Lisa Derencinovic for an online chair yoga workshop aimed at enhancing overall well-being. Lisa will lead participants through foundational poses designed to:

  • increase circulation,
  • improve flexibility,
  • alleviate cramps and stiffness, and
  • promote relaxation.

Utilizing meditation, visualizations, breathing exercises and gentle stretching, the workshop aims to facilitate stress relief and tension release. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

About chair yoga

Originally introduced to the fitness world as a modified version of hatha yoga for individuals with health implications and the elderly, chair yoga is a skill anyone can add to their daily routines. Chair yoga is an ideal exercise for those suffering from conditions such as chronic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoporosis and multiple sclerosis.

What you’ll need

Lisa will guide you through yoga poses that can be done sitting in a chair over Zoom. We recommend that you:

  • choose a sturdy, stationary chair without armrests
  • wear loose, comfortable clothing to facilitate stretching during the poses
