Dr. Dorothy Bakker

Interim Associate Dean, UGME

Dr. Dorothy Bakker regularly contributes to learner curriculum and faculty development and supports medical students and residents as a tutor, advisor, remedial coach, and examiner. She is an associate clinical professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine; she has held various leadership roles at the school, including director of Student Affairs at the Waterloo Regional Campus and assistant dean of McMaster Community & Rural Education (Mac-CARE). Recently, Dr. Bakker has worked with Osler Health Sciences to develop the Osler Clinical Education Campus.

Dr. Bakker graduated from McMaster Medical School and completed her family medicine residency at the North Hamilton Community Health Centre. She has practiced as a rural family physician in Port Elgin, a student health physician at the University of Guelph, and an immigration panel physician. She completed a master of arts in leadership studies from the University of Guelph and the Certificate in Travel Health from the International Society of Travel Medicine. 

Dr. Bakker has received several awards including the Jacquie Wakefield Mentorship Award, the John Sibley Award for contributions to McMaster’s Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Ontario College of Family Physicians Regional Family Physician of the Year Award.
