Mission Statement

Formally, the School of Urban and Regional Planning's mission is:

"To provide excellence in planning education at the undergraduate level that prepares graduates to contribute as leaders in the community and the profession. The School is committed to advancing applied knowledge and research about cities and regions and to enhancing planning practice."

In support of this mission, the curricular approach of the School reflects the following key themes, developed by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP):

1) Improvement of cities and regions
2) Interconnections among built form, transportation, the natural environment, and local communities
3) Future-looking, recognizing public aspirations as well as historical trends
4) Diversity of needs and distributional consequences
5) Open participation in decision-making
6) Linking knowledge and collective action via professional practice.
