A number of government and community resources are available to assist with caring for elders including housing, caregiver support, home and long-term care services.
- Employment Insurance Caregiving Benefits & Leave: (external link) caregivers who need to take time away from work to provide care of support to a critically ill or injured person or someone needing end-of-life care have access to financial assistance through employment insurance.
- Ontario Drug Benefit Program (external link) and Trillium Drug Program (external link) : coverage for prescription drugs.
- A Guide to Programs & Services for Seniors in Ontario - Government of Ontario (external link) : information on services and resources including tax credits, health, caregiving, housing, driving and staying safe.
- Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility - Government of Ontario (external link) : focuses on safety, accessibility and wellbeing of seniors.
- Programs and Services for Seniors from the Government of Canada (external link) : information on Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), Old Age Security (OAS), Caregiving Benefits, and other topics such as managing money, fraud prevention, and health and safety.
- Family Service Toronto (external link) : counselling, group work, advocacy, training and educational sessions on a variety of topics such as aging and memory loss, anger and guilt, how to access community resources, abuse of older adults, etc.
- Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario (external link) : training, education and support for elders.
- CareGiving.com (external link) : a community of family caregivers sharing their stories, support and solutions.
- Carers Canada (external link) : a national coalition of diverse federal and provincial organizations that join with carers, providers, policy makers and other stakeholders to affect positive change for carers.
- Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (external link) : guidelines and resources for finding long term care solutions to help seniors maintain their health and independence.
- Comfort Life (external link) : provides options for retirement homes. It also includes resources on memory and home care, assisted and independent living and how to live an active lifestyle.
- Ontario Long Term Care Association (external link) : association of long-term care providers in Canada representing a mix of long-term care operators – private, not-for-profit, charitable, and municipal.
- Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) (external link) : a voluntary non-profit association that represents operators of retirement residences in Ontario.
- Home and communite care (external link) : home and community services support people of all ages who require care in their home, at school or in the community.
- Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) (external link) : a non-profit organization that works with clients, employees, volunteers and partners to provide innovative clinical, personal and social support to people who want the comfort of living in their own homes.
- Living Assistance Services: Home Care for Seniors (external link) : home health care service for senior citizens providing care in either a home or institutional environment.
- Saint Elizabeth Health Care (external link) : health care services across many areas of the health system, including home and community care, long-term care, acute care and primary care.
