Social Innovation in Practice

The course unfolds through a combination of classroom guests, lectures and off-campus attendance at learning events in Toronto's rich social innovation community. The focus of the course is: 1) to introduce students to the field of social innovation, focusing on innovation activity in the Toronto social sectors, 2) to foster and support the development of a change project or area of interest with respect to social change and 3) to help students see themselves as 'change makers' in the current social context. Students will build the capacity to become leaders in social service organizations, innovating non-profits or social enterprises and work with intractable social problems.
