HIS 755

Themes in Material Culture

This course explores historical objects, buildings, landscapes and their meanings. The focus will vary each year depending upon the instructor's expertise, but may include the material cultures of the First Nations, the military, the workplace, the home, landscape, architecture, and the roles that objects and built forms play in the immaterial realms of memory, faith, and identity. In contrast to HIS 501, this course primarily examines materials outside of the archaeological realm. (Formerly HST 723)
