The Second World War
This course explores the causes, course and consequences of the world’s most catastrophic conflict. Key themes include the origins of Nazism and political extremism, Hitler’s ideological preoccupations, the exceptional nature of the war
in the Soviet Union and in the Pacific, the civilian experience, and the Holocaust. The course examines the conflict from diverse angles, drawing upon political, social and cultural history, as well as on film and memoir.
