Contemporary French Philosophy
This course will focus on French philosophy from the 20th century to the present, exploring some of the most provocative philosophical criticism of the Western tradition. With reference to a range of thinkers (e.g. Althusser, Badiou, Balibar, de Beauvoir, Cixous, Deleuze, Derrida, Foucault, Irigaray, Kristeva, Lacan, Levinas, Malabou, Nancy, Rancière, Weil), the course will address questions related to such themes as alterity, subjectivity, language, sexual difference, biopolitics, fascism, colonialism, nationalism, revolution and the ethical relation to the other.
