Spanish Language and Culture through Films

This course, offered in Spanish, explores contemporary Peninsular Spanish language and culture through cinema. Through the study of films by directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Alejandro Amenábar and Icíar Bollaín, students develop language and critical analysis skills, while gaining an understanding of modern Spain, Spanish cinema and culture. Textual analysis, oral participation and composition form an essential part of the course.

Prerequisites

SPN 401 or placement test score of 401 required (www.torontomu.ca/llc). Not available to native speakers of Spanish or advanced Spanish speakers.
