Minor in Geography

The Geography Minor provides students with a set of courses to acquire a good understanding of the complex connections that human beings have with their natural and built environments. The Geography Minor adds breadth to students' program of study and enhances their career possibilities. In particular, the Geography Minor serves the needs of the students who wish to pursue a teaching profession with Geography as a second “teachable”, or who wish to gain a broader understanding of international, environmental, urban and Canadian Issues.

Exclusions: This minor is not available to students in the following programs:

Students may only pursue one of Geography or Geographic Analysis minor, double minors in Geography and Geographic Analysis will not be granted.

To receive this Minor, students must complete six (6) courses from the following curriculum:

One (1) of the following:

  • GEO 131 Energy, Earth and Ecosystems or GEO 110 The Physical Environment
  • GEO 151 Location, Location, Location or PLG 300 Theories in Urban and Regional Planning

Plus two (2) of the following:

  • GEO 106 Geographies of Everyday Life
  • GEO 108 Geography of the Global Village
  • GEO 131† Energy, Earth and Ecosystems or GEO 110† The Physical Environment
  • GEO 151† Location, Location, Location or PLG 300† Theories in Urban and Regional Planning
  • GEO 206 Regions, Nations and the Global Community
  • GEO 208 Geography of the Global Economy
  • GEO 210 Geography of Hazards
  • GEO 231 Principles of Demography
  • GEO 312 Viva Las Vegas!
  • GEO 351 Internal Structure of the City
  • GEO 372 Global Shift in the 21st Century
  • GEO 581 GIS, Geographic Data and Mapping
