Minor in Professional Communication

High-level competency in written, oral, and visual communication is increasingly recognized as vital to success in business and the public sector. The Minor in Professional Communication develops students' communication professionalism through theoretical and workshop courses emphasizing creative, workable solutions to challenging communication problems.

Exclusions: This minor is not available to students in the following programs:

This minor cannot be taken in conjunction with the Public Relations Minor.

To receive this Minor, students must complete six (6) courses from the following curriculum:

  • CMN 316 Questioning Data
  • CMN 317 Information, Technology, and Control
  • CMN 406 Storytelling in an Indigenous Context
  • CMN 413 Corporate Communications
  • CMN 414 Interpersonal Communication
  • CMN 443 Contemporary Intercultural Communication
  • CMN 447 Communication and Law
  • CMN 450 Participatory Media and Communication
  • CMN 601 Visual Communication: A Critical Approach

* The material in CMN 279 is covered by courses specific to individual programs. The following program-specific courses may therefore be used in place of CMN 279 for this Minor:

  • CMN 100 Professional Health Communication
  • CMN 114 Short Management Reports
  • CMN 300 Communication in the Computer Industry
