The Cloud

Project Description

The Cloud was made by students and staff from TMU's Department of Architectural Science, and is installed on top of the concrete landing of the main entrance to the Architecture building (325 Church Street, Toronto). Modular sections are joined with a slotting system, combined to welcome visitors to the facility. The 3D printed and laser-cut components are semi-transluscent and carries light similarly to clouds.

The design and build team tested various materials, assembly techniques, installation angles and overal scale. 1:1 models were digitally fabricated to study the structural foundations of the build. The Cloud sculpture was made with the aid of CNC machines, laser cutters, and 3D printers (including Prusa 3D Printer, KUKA robot with an extruding arm, and the Modix 3D Printer–Sinter Printer.
