Despite the current fiscal environment, Ryerson will maintain focus on core values, including enabling student engagement and promoting access to quality education.

I am reaching out to you about the Ryerson University budget process for 2019-20.

As we all know, Ontario’s current fiscal environment is challenging and the university sector is facing tough decisions.

I want to encourage our entire community to work together during the upcoming budget cycle with the full knowledge that difficult choices will have to be made. I also want to assure all of you that despite the reductions in our operating budget, Ryerson will remain focused on our core values:

  • enabling student engagement and exceptional experiences;
  • increasing SRC excellence;
  • fostering Ryerson’s unique innovative ecosystem;
  • promoting access to quality education; and
  • maintaining our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Stay focused, work together

While we do need to be pragmatic about the challenges that the coming budget reductions will have on our community, we should not lose sight of what we can achieve together. We know that challenges bring opportunities and Ryerson must continue to take risks and proceed with plans that strengthen our long-term vision. I believe that we can accomplish great things by staying positive and staying focused.

Our budget process

Provost and Vice-President, Academic Michael Benarroch will be leading an open and consultative budget process to establish our priorities for the next fiscal year.

There will be opportunities to participate in town halls and we encourage those preparing budget submissions to meet with your teams to develop creative, constructive ideas to find savings, generate additional revenue, and do things in innovative new ways. We will be creating a budget website to share events, updates and budget planning materials with the entire community. I encourage you to attend a town hall and to share your ideas.

We know that by working together with creativity and collaboration, we can establish a solid budget and ensure Ryerson emerges stronger than before.

Mohamed Lachemi
President and Vice-Chancellor
