Registration to Ryerson’s law school opened last month. Students may apply until Nov. 1.

Set to start in 2020, Ryerson’s Faculty of Law is offering something different – a new approach to legal education that will be innovative in focus, design and approach, while promoting access and diversity.

When the first Ryerson law school students arrive, they'll receive a legal education that examines contemporary issues such as technology, equity, diversity and inclusion, and access to justice and social innovation. For example, mandatory courses will be offered in social innovation and the law, Indigenous law in Canada, legal innovation and the business of law, as well as in the perspectives of learning in a diverse community.

Another major feature of the new law school is that it is designated as an integrated practice curriculum (IPC). That means students who graduate from Ryerson law will not be required to article or complete the Law Practice Program in order to be licensed as lawyers. Ryerson and Lakehead University are the only Ontario law schools with this designation.

Applications and information

Since registration opened on Aug. 22, students have shown strong interest in the Ryerson program.

Applications for 2020 will be accepted up to Nov. 1, 2019.

For Ryerson students interested in applying, there are some info sessions planned for this fall:

OSAP eligible

Ryerson University would like to thank the Ontario government for its recent decision to make our law school OSAP eligible. Over several months, Ryerson has worked closely with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities on a revised business model for a law program that works for Ontario.

This is very good news for students who are interested in Ryerson law, said Ryerson President Mohamed Lachemi. “This decision means that students attending Ryerson’s law school can apply for financial assistance from the province in the form of loans and grants to help pay for their tuition, books, equipment and supplies, etc., making law school more accessible.”

This eligibility brings the annual tuition to $21,168.00, putting Ryerson below U of T ($33,040) and Osgoode ($24,802) law schools.
