Martina joins TMU from the School of Information at the University of Toronto, where she was the first Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. In this role, she worked collaboratively with all stakeholders to develop and implement initiatives aimed at advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in both learning and working environments; she also provided strategic guidance and advice to the Dean’s executive team on matters of policy interpretation, EDI concerns and/or complaints, and other EDI-related practices.
Prior to U of T, Martina worked at World Vision Canada, where she was also the first Specialist of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion within the People and Culture Department. Martina was previously the Co-Chair of the University of Toronto, Mississauga Campus, Connections & Conversations Executive Committee, an affinity group for racialized staff at U of T.
Martina earned her Honours BA in Sociology from York University and her Master of Professional Education in Equity, Diversity, and Social Justice from Western University. She has over 10 years of experience working in higher education and the non-profit sector.
