Email Address:

I joined the English Department at Ryerson as an Associate Professor in 2009, after previous posts at the University of Sussex in the UK and the University of Toronto. I teach and supervise students in the areas of Romanticism, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century literature and visual culture, history of museums and collections.

Research Interests:

My research takes up the crosscurrents between visual culture and literary texts in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and my 2008 monograph Romanticism and Visuality: Fragments, History, Spectacle focuses on a variety of "sites" of seeing, and on the impact of new visual media on the literary and historical imagination. I’ve published articles on a variety of topics related to Romanticism and visual culture, and am currently undertaking a SSHRC funded research project on objects, collections and museums in the Romantic period, called The Romantic Museum: Antiquity, Memory, Modernity.
