Important notice: Access to campus facilities during the mid-year break

December 11, 2018

All university buildings will close on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 5 p.m. and reopen on Monday, January 7, 2019 at 6 a.m. This break is a wonderful opportunity for refreshment and rejuvenation, both for our employees as well as our campus facilities!

Visiting campus over the break

We expect that faculty, staff and students will take advantage of the mid-year break to relax and recharge off-campus. That said, if you need to visit campus over the break, please note these important details about building access and security.

Building access

Building access for students, faculty and staff during the holiday shutdown period will follow normal Sunday access protocols. As such, if you require access to buildings during the break:

  • Contact your department administrator prior to December 21 to ensure that your OneCard is programmed to allow access.
    • The OneCard Office and Ryerson Security and Emergency Services will require proper authorization from departmental access coordinators to make changes to access levels on your OneCard.
    • Security and Emergency Services will not be able to provide building access unless your OneCard is authorized.
  • Advise Security in advance of accessing a building so that alarms can be deactivated by calling 416-979-5040.
  • Carry your OneCard with you at all times.

If you will be working alone or in isolation over the break, please visit the Working Alone or in Isolation webpage.

Power outages

Each year during the mid-year break, we conduct high voltage preventative maintenance tasks that require power shutdowns in multiple buildings. Throughout these shutdowns, all building power will be interrupted with the exception of emergency (life and safety) power. Building access will be restricted to essential personnel only.

The following outages are scheduled to occur between 11:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. If you are in an affected location and require temporary backup power during this period, please contact John Krstevski at jkrstevski@torontomu.ca or 416-979-5000, ext. 3259 before Tuesday, December 18 at 5 p.m.

Shut down your equipment

Please be sure to turn off your computers and any other sensitive electrical equipment before you leave for the mid-year break. It’s a small step towards energy conservation, and will help you to avoid being impacted by any planned power shutdowns in your building.

In the case of an emergency

If you are on campus and there is an emergency, call 911.

Ryerson Security is also available to you 24/7 at 416-979-5040 or security@torontomu.ca.

Service alerts paused during the mid-year break

Service alerts help keep the Ryerson community in the loop about upcoming and current construction work and outages causing access restrictions, excessive noise or utility interruptions on campus. Please note these alerts will pause during the mid-year break closure and will resume on Monday, January 7.

Questions?

If you have any questions, please contact the FMD Help Desk at fixit@torontomu.ca or 416-979-5091.
