Organizational Agility and Flexibility Project

The experience of remote work during COVID-19 has led to many unexpected lessons. This new project will allow us to plan a forward-thinking strategy of what the future of work can be at Ryerson. The multi-year project will consider new ways of working that take into account the adaptability of our processes and procedures, technology, and workspaces.

Project timeline

This is a multi-year and phased project.

Phase Timeline
Current state assessment October to December 2020
Design Ryerson’s agility vision December to January 2021
Implementation January 2021 to January 2024

We’ll continue to provide updates as we work through the various stages of the project.

How was the project initiated?

This May, President Lachemi announced the creation of an Opportunities Group to look for opportunities within the disruption of COVID-19. One of the projects to come out of this committee is the Organizational Agility and Flexibility Project.

Who is leading the project?

The project’s steering committee includes representation from Computing and Communications Services, Human Resources, the Vice-Provost Faculty Affairs and University Planning.

What other information gathering exercises are happening as part of this project?

To help inform the project, we invited all faculty and staff to complete a survey. The goal of the survey was:

  • to gain a thorough understanding of your experiences of working, teaching and researching over the past eight months: What has worked well and what hasn’t?
  • to help determine how best to provide additional support that faculty and staff may need as remote work continues through April 2021.

The survey was conducted and analyzed by a third-party vendor, and only aggregated results will be shared with Ryerson.

The project team is also conducting a number of information gathering exercises, including consultations with executives, interviews with leaders and more.
