Biography

James has worked in and around the film industry since graduating from school. He found a home back at the college when he took over as the Lead Technologist for the post-graduate Advanced TV & Film program, where he worked for a decade. In 2018 he moved over to Sheridan’s Screen-Industries Research & Training Centre (SIRT) where he now works as researcher within the Virtual Production Team. Here he has developed in-house expertise in Unreal Engine for virtual production, and was recently certified by Epic as an Unreal Authorized Instructor.

In his spare time he practices, teaches and promotes traditional Chinese martial arts and culture – Kung Fu – where, after 23 years of continued practice, he was awarded a 4th Degree Black Sash by The World Federation.

Why Digital Media?

I used to think I worked in tech… but over the years, what I discovered was that I’m really more interested in the people that use that tech. What I do is help them learn and create. Technology is just the vessel by which I can do that work. I hope to continue that and the MDM program is also giving me a chance to explore topics and research that I find interesting. On paper, it looked like a great mix of my experiences and my goals. So far, it has not disappointed.
