In spring 2018, Ryerson’s convocation ceremonies will be moving to the Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC).

Due to construction in the quad, a new location for convocation was needed and 50 Carlton Street was a logical choice given the MAC’s size and accommodating space.

“Ryerson is pleased to hold convocation in the MAC this spring,” said President Mohamed Lachemi. “There will be more room for family and community members to witness, celebrate and applaud our graduating students on this momentous occasion.”

In the 25 years Ryerson has been a university, the campus has grown to more than 44,500 students and the numbers continue to rise. An estimated 5,800 students are expected to attend convocation in June.  A bigger venue will allow students to bring up to four guests and decrease the number of ceremonies to 12 compared to 17 ceremonies held last spring.

“The move for spring will make greater use of the entire campus while fostering a welcoming environment for all who share in the achievements of Ryerson convocation,” said Kim McDonald, manager, Ceremonials Office.

The MAC can seat 3,000 guests, increasing the need for more than the usual 50 to 60 volunteers per ceremony. Look out in Ryerson Today closer to the event date for volunteer info.
