Ryerson University and the Ryerson Leadership Lab will host Al Gore, Nobel Peace Laureate and 45th Vice-President of the United States, and Premier Kathleen Wynne for a public discussion on leadership and the climate crisis at Ryerson University on Thursday, March 8, 2018.

This free event is open to the public and will take place at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. Tickets are required for admission and space is limited.

During the discussion, Vice-President Gore and Premier Wynne will highlight the growing climate change threat and the role that leadership, especially the leadership of students and young people, can play in solving it.

“Climate change is disrupting our world every day. At Ryerson University, we are developing new clean energy innovations through our researchers as well as through partnership with the students and the community to address the climate crisis,” said Mohamed Lachemi, president and vice-chancellor of Ryerson University. “We are proud to welcome Vice-President Gore and Premier Kathleen Wynne to share their joint message of hope and action and the ongoing need for strong leadership on the most urgent global issue.”

“Mr. Gore has led on climate change, even when it hasn’t been popular or easy. For decades, he has drawn attention to the problem, educated people and mobilized them to act, and implemented workable solutions to the climate crisis,” said Karim Bardeesy, co-founder of the Ryerson Leadership Lab (external link) . “He defines what it means to lead on our most pressing public challenges.”

Al Gore is the founder and chairman of The Climate Reality Project (external link) , a non-profit devoted to solving the climate crisis. He is the author of the bestsellers Earth in the Balance, An Inconvenient Truth, The Assault on Reason, Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis, The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change, and most recently, The New York Times best-seller An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.

Gore is the subject of an Oscar-winning documentary movie, An Inconvenient Truth, as well as its follow-up, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power. He is the co-recipient, with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, for “informing the world of the dangers posed by climate change.”
