Ryerson’s rich teaching culture bolstered by tenure-stream growth
Growing tenure-stream faculty is a priority for Ryerson University to ensure students have access to a high-quality education.
I am pleased to announce that Ryerson University has approved 103 tenure-stream positions this year and has completed the hiring of 79 tenure-stream faculty members.
Many have already begun teaching within the Faculty of Arts (20), Ted Rogers School of Management (12), Faculty of Community Services (11), Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (9), Faculty of Communication and Design (8), and Faculty of Science (8). The remainder will join the community during the next academic year.
Of this group, we welcome eight members of Canada’s Indigenous community, further strengthening the university’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. While there is still work to be done, improving representation in our classrooms and administration is a crucial step towards the meaningful Indigenization of our curriculum and campus. We look forward to expanding our community of Indigenous scholars as we continue to seek thoughtful ways of infusing the values of equity, diversity and inclusion into our culture.
Growing our tenure-stream faculty remains a priority for Ryerson. Ensuring that our students have access to a high-quality education is one of our core values, and we take great pride in both nurturing and empowering talented teachers who would like to have a long-term impact on our institution. When we invest in our faculty, we encourage more research excellence, broaden our teaching methods and refine our curriculum to reflect our evolving world.
Importantly, we have also hired 19 new limited-term faculty, have created a total of 30 new faculty positions for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years, and are committed to replacing all Ryerson Faculty Association resignations and retirements over the next two years to keep classrooms manageable.
