A message about spring convocation

Last year when we postponed our convocation ceremonies we were hopeful that we would all be able to celebrate together by spring 2021. In light of the government directives and continued public health concerns resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, we have once again made the difficult decision to postpone in-person convocation ceremonies. We will celebrate our spring 2021 graduates virtually.

For those graduating this spring, as well as those who graduated in 2020, we know that this is disheartening news. While we share your disappointment that we cannot recognize you and your achievements with an in-person ceremony at this time, ensuring the continued health and safety of our community remains our primary concern.

Although the ceremonies scheduled for June have been postponed, students who have applied to graduate, and who have completed their program requirements successfully, will still graduate and be awarded their degree or certificate.  

I want to assure all 2020 and spring 2021 graduates that they will have the opportunity to participate in a future ceremony and cross the convocation stage. Attending convocation is a rite of passage and we want to celebrate your convocation and your success in person with our community when it is safe to do so again.  

I look forward to celebrating our newest 2021 graduates with a virtual ceremony this spring – details on ceremony dates will be shared later this semester. We are so proud of you and all that you have achieved during your time at Ryerson, especially in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
