Studies around the world have concluded that noise, and in particular road traffic noise, have negative impacts on health. Using noise monitoring and modelling methods in combination with large health cohort data, Ryerson Assistant Professor Tor Oiamo has studied traffic noise levels across Toronto and their effects on local populations. The results show persistent exposures to excessive levels of road traffic noise and associations with chronic health outcomes. What’s more, there are notable variations in noise exposures throughout the city with implications for vulnerable populations. Join us to explore this topic, Dr. Oiamo’s ongoing research, social and environmental dimensions of the issue as well as next steps for research and governance.

From 11 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by an optional Q&A.
