New Collective Agreement and Payroll Processing

July 26, 2017
TO: All RFA Members
FROM:     Saeed Zolfaghari, Vice-Provost, Faculty Affairs
DATE: July 26, 2016

Dear RFA Member,

The Board of Governors of Ryerson University and the Ryerson Faculty Association ratified a new collective agreement in June 2016.  The term of the Agreement runs until June 30, 2018.

Your August 15, 2016 pay cheque reflects your appropriate salary as a result of the negotiated salary increases.

Where appropriate, salary adjustments are retroactive to July 1, 2015 to members actively employed as of the last date of ratification by the Board of Governors and the Association (June 6, 2016).

A member who was a member of the Association as of June 30, 2015 and who continues to be a member is entitled to receive an across-the-board increase of 1.5%, effective July 1, 2015.  Further, a member who is actively employed on July 1, 2016 and who commenced employment prior to July 1, 2016 is entitled to an across-the-board increase of 1.5%, effective July 1, 2016.  For pre-tenure faculty members who commenced employment on or after July 1, 2015, your starting salary is your salary during your first appointment year and thereafter you are eligible for the negotiated salary increases that accrue to you under the terms of the 2015 – 2018 RFA Collective Agreement.

CDI’s are effective from September 1, 2015, in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement.  For all Association members the value of a CDI on September 1, 2015 is $3,150.00 and will be reflected in your August 15, 2016 pay cheque, if applicable.  Consistent with the RFA collective agreement, the value of a CDI on September 1, 2016 is $3,200.00 and will be reflected in your September 2016 pay cheque, if applicable.

The effective dates of promotional Career Development Increments (CDIs) (i.e. for the 2014 – 2015 and 2015 – 2016 time periods) remain unchanged, that is, they are effective September 1st.  Where such processes have been completed and the promotional CDI has been granted for September 1, 2015 CDI, this CDI payment will also be reflected in your August 15th pay cheque.  The September 1, 2016 promotional CDI will be reflected in your September 15th pay cheque.

The effective dates of the Salary/Gender Anomaly awards (i.e. for the 2015 – 2016 time period) remain unchanged, that is, they are effective July 1st.  The process of determining who will be awarded a salary/gender anomaly adjustment effective July 1, 2016 will be completed in the Fall 2016 term.  Such adjustments will be retroactive to July 1, 2016. Any member of the Association who is awarded a salary/gender anomaly adjustment (effective July 1, 2016) will receive a separate communication from my office outlining the appropriate details.

During the week of August 8th, you will receive a salary calculation sheet explaining the increases to your salary.  This sheet will be sent as a hardcopy memo to your home school/department/unit.
