Update on the Joint Committee on Teaching Stream Faculty

April 09, 2018

At the 2015 bargaining round, the University administration and the Ryerson Faculty Association agreed to establish a joint committee to discuss the concept of a Teaching Stream Faculty (TSF) within the University. The mandate of the committee was to review the best practices for Teaching Stream Faculty at the provincial, national and international level and best practices regarding their terms and conditions of employment. The Committee was to provide recommendations to the Vice-Provost, Faculty Affairs and the President of the Association by no later than April 1, 2018.

The University administration thank all committee members who devoted a considerable amount of time and energy to this committee. The administration members were pleased with the great deal of information that was gathered and the very informative discussions took place. The committee did not agree to a joint report. Notwithstanding this, the work of the Committee resulted in substantive learnings and provided the administration members with useful information of the best practices for Teaching Stream Faculty. Further discussions regarding a Teaching Stream Faculty at the University are deferred to the bargaining table. The parties commenced collective bargaining on March 28, 2018 and regular bargaining sessions have been scheduled during the coming months.
