Using updated browsers

It's important to keep your web browser up-to-date for both security and performance reasons. For optimal experience, we recommend using the latest or most recent browser versions. Some supported browsers include:

Clearing browser cache

Experiencing issues with your web browser? Sometimes websites store information in your browser's cache (prounced like cash) and cookies. Clearing your cache forces your browser to retrieve the newest copy available from the website. Sometimes this helps with certain problems, like loading, formatting or login issues on sites.

  1. Navigate to the Chrome pop-up button in the top right corner.
  2. Select More Tools.
  3. Select Clear Browsing Data.
  4. For Time range, select All Time from the dropdown menu.
  5. Check off Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files.
  6. Select Clear Data.

Alternatively, you can clear your browsing data using the following keyboard shorcuts: Command + Shift + Delete on Mac OS, or Control + Shift + Delete on Windows.

  1. Navigate to the Settings and more button in the top right corner.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Choose what to clear.
  4. Check off Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data, Cached data and files, and Tabs I've set aside or recently closed.
  5. Select Clear Data.

Alternatively, you can clear your browsing data using the following keyboard combination Control + Shift + Delete on Windows.

  1. Navigate to View history, saved bookmarks, and more button in the top right corner.
  2. Go to History.
  3. Select Clear Recent History...
  4. Select the Everything option from the Time range to clear dropdown menu.
  5. Select all checkboxes. Uncheck Browsing & Download History if you would like to preserve your browsing history.
  6. Select Clear Now button.

Alternatively, you can clear your browsing data using the following keyboard shorcuts: Command + Shift + Delete on Mac OS, or Control + Shift + Delete on Windows.

  1. Navigate to History in the main Safari menu.
  2. Select Clear History...
  3. Make sure to select all history from the Clear dropdown menu.
  4. Select Clear History.

Perform a D2L System check to ensure that your browser is properly configured to use the system.

Allowing pop-ups

Pop-ups are small windows that 'pop up' over the top of web pages in your web browser. Some Ryerson applications rely on pop-ups to display information.

Navigate to 'Pop-up Blocked' in the navigation bar, and select 'Always allow pop-ups from'.

In Google Chrome, navigate to the Pop-up blocked button near the navigation bar. Then select Always allow pop-ups from... for any Ryerson website and select Done.

Select 'Always allow' button for Ryerson websites if prompted by Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft Edge will prompt you to allow or block pop-ups. If you're trying to access a Ryerson website with a pop-up, select Always allow.

Toggle 'Allow pop-ups for' from the Options or Preferences button.

In Firefox, navigate to the Options or Preferences button in the pop-up warning banner. Select Allow pop-ups... for any Ryerson website.

Setting default browser in Windows 10

Use your favourite web browser (if it's installed). Although uncommon, sometimes you may come across websites that tell you that your browser doesn't work with their website. If necessary, you can change the default browser in Windows 10 so that all links will open in your preferred browser.

  1. Navigate to the Windows start button and search "Choose a default web browser"
  2. Select the "Choose a default web browser" system setting and it will prompt "Default apps" in settings. 
  3. Navigate to "Web browser" subheading and click on the current browser.
  4. Select your preferred browser in the "Choose an app" menu.

Please note: If you are using a classroom podium computer, your preferences will not be saved. You will need to repeat this process the next time you login on that computer. You can use either Microsoft Edge, Firefox or Chrome on podium computers.
