Critically acclaimed director of live television Shelagh O’Brien, is a distinguished director in residence in The RTA School of Media.
As a distinguished director in residence, O’Brien provides advice on the development of curriculum from a practical perspective. She also participates in seminars and workshops, provides networking opportunities and helps with production strategy in the School.
O’Brien has worked as a director, artistic director and producer on a wide range of multi-camera productions and she has directed in almost every genre of television including prime-time specials, live sports, entertainment galas and children’s programming.
Her credits include mass live events, including Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa, the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, the 2014 Canadian Country Music Awards and the opening ceremonies and nightly medal ceremonies of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. O’Brien will also be the world feed director for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2015 Pan Am Games. She has worked with renowned actors and performers such as Christopher Plummer, Steve Martin, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon and Joseph Gordon Levitt. O’Brien has more than 20 awards and nominations to her credit, including four Gemini Awards and a Canadian Comedy Award.
