TA/GA: Supporting Students through Academic Challenges and 'Failure'

Date
October 19, 2023
Time
4:00 PM EDT - 5:30 PM EDT
Location
Virtual Online

Students often experience setbacks, challenges, and “failures” in academia. Importantly, scholarship in teaching and learning reveals that academic culture is characterized by narrow perspectives of success, and often framed through competition and individualism. In other words, experiences of failure are not usually welcome. While TAs and GAs may observe academic challenges and failures when grading student assignments, providing students with effective feedback can be complicated, overwhelming, and uncomfortable. In this VIRTUAL workshop, participants will learn tools and strategies to compassionately support students, and to normalize failure within academic culture by valuing the learning process.

Hosted in Zoom By: The Centre's Graduate Student Educational Developer Team. A Zoom link will be sent out one day prior to the workshop.

Note: This session counts as one workshop towards the workshop component of GTDP Level 1.
