TMU among top five research universities for collaborations and partnerships in Research Infosource rankings

TMU ranked third in not-for-profit research income growth and fourth in corporate research income growth in the Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities 2023 five-year spotlight.

New rankings from Research Infosource showcase Toronto Metropolitan University’s (TMU) strength and excellence in collaborative research. The Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities 2023 (external link, opens in new window)  list has ranked TMU among the top five comprehensive research universities in several collaboration and partnership categories. 

The list’s five-year spotlight highlights research income growth between 2018 and 2022. TMU ranked third in not-for-profit research income growth during this period, achieving a 74 per cent increase, and fourth in corporate research income growth with a 70 per cent increase.

Between 2017 and 2021, TMU increased its international and cross-sector research outputs. The university ranked fourth in international collaboration publications growth and fifth in cross-sector collaboration publications growth.

During the 2022 fiscal year, TMU increased research funding per graduate student and achieved a fifth-place ranking, up one spot from 2021. TMU also achieved eighth place for research funding per faculty. With a total of $85.4 million in research income, TMU ranked ninth in the comprehensive tier and 25th overall in the Canada’s Top 50 Research Universities 2023 list.
